English Year 5 1st term 21-22

 Dear families,
This first term we started our English lessons reviewing class routines such as writing the date, talking about the weather and how we feel.
We started the school year by introducing ourselves with the activity My cup of tea, where we talked about those things we like the most. Since we were working on fungi in our first TAGA, we learnt lots of things related to fungi; we watched a video from which we took the information and vocabulary needed and we did an experiment in with bread, in order to find out which are the necessary conditions for fungi to grow on our bread slices.

In Autumn, we sang the Halloween song “Ghostbusters” while revising the vocabulary and expressions from this festivity. Then, we wrote our Spooky Stories, in groups, and we enjoyed sharing them with the rest of the class.

We started learning about the English speaking countries by finding them on a map and looking for their flags. We worked in our first country, The UK; in order to introduce it we had a Scottish Dancing workshop in school, and we had great fun learning about Scotland.

Then, and after reading the story “The Queen’s Hat”, we focused on London, finding out which are the main landmarks. We did our own English speaking countries passport, and we already have our first stamp on it!

We are preparing, in small groups, our three days trip to London; we have looked for flights and accommodation, we changed our currencies, places we want to visit… in order to work out a final budget for our trip.

When Christmas came around, we sang the song “All I want for Christmas is you”, and we revised the vocabulary and traditions related to this festivity by opening our on-line advent calendar.

Finally, we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day while collaborating with a local solidarity campaign.
