English Year 3 1st term 21-22

 Dear families,
We wanted to share with you what we have been doing in Year 3 this first term.

This year we started off by reviewing the vocabulary of the routines we use in English, such as the name of the days of the week, the months, the weather, the numbers, the emotions, etc. Then we started learning daily routines to talk about what we were doing every day. To do this, we worked on vocabulary using digital tools as well as manipulative resources. For example, we manipulatively worked out which routines we did during the day and which ones at night, working on connectors such as first, next, and last. After learning the routines, we worked on how to tell the time in English, playing PDI games and working on the clock in a playful way. In this case, we really liked to use flashcards in which we had to identify what time it was and also ice cream flashcards in which we had to relate the digital time to the analog and written time.

Halloween arrived in October and we worked on the holiday vocabulary with a Scavenger Hunt of vocabulary in the school yard with our classmates. We also worked on Halloween with different games. One of the ones we liked most was Roll a Pumkin in which we had to create a pumpkin, rolling a dice and following the instructions according to the number we had on the dice. Some really fun pumpkins came out!

In November, we started a new topic, focusing on animals and the skills they have. With the story “The Mixed-up Chamaleon”, we were able to work on the names of the animals in the story and their body parts. We also reviewed colours and grammatical structures to make short sentences and describe animals that were the result of a mixture of other animals and our imagination. We worked on different games, such as animal riddles. We discovered one of the skills of chameleons, which is to camouflage, and we invented animals that could be camouflaged to explain to our classmates.

Within the TAGA of the production sectors, we worked on the jobs vocabulary with games and role-play. We focused on the secondary and tertiary sector, working on the Potter’s job as our teachers had organized a pottery workshop for us in English in the school, where each of us made our own productions using the clay. In this unit, we put rhythm and melody to a song with the topic of jobs. First, we divided the song into verses and each group learned and sang it using a different musical register: pop, rap, opera, etc. We loved singing it and seeing the end result!

In December, with the arrival of Christmas, we worked on the story "Cookie's Christmas Invention", where an Elf of Santa Claus becomes an inventor, thus establishing relationships with our TAGA of the production sectors and jobs. Everyone designed their invention and explained to the rest of the class why the toy they had created was useful.
