English Year 2 first term 21-22

Dear families,

This first term, we have started our English sessions working on class routines, talking about the weather, writing the date, revising the days of the week and introducing the Months of the year. We played some games on the roof playground together with the other group class, in order to revise numbers and month of the year while playing physical games outdoors.

We worked on the story “Six Dinner Sid”, remembering the animal parts of the body, the names of different animals, as well as the parts of the house and everything we can find in a house. In order to acquire the house vocabulary, we played again on the roof playground with our mates from the other class, filling in different houses drawn on the floor with chalk using pictures cards from the house vocabulary. Furthermore, we looked for our favourite place at home and made a little lapbook. We enjoyed sharing it with our classmates.

In Autumn, we worked on the story “Funny Bones” and the song “Skeleton Dance” in order to revise the vocabulary related to Halloween as well as the main parts of the body. We also played some games; one that we especially enjoyed was Roll a Pumpkin, where we had to create our pumpkin,  throwing a dice and following the instructions depending on the number in the dice. We got really funny pumpkins!

During this term, we also read the story “The Mixed-up Chameleon, and we were able to create our own made up animals, mixing parts of the body from different animals. We learnt a lot about animal camouflage.

When the Christmas season came around, we read the story “Cookie’s Christmas Invention”, where a Santa Claus elf becomes an inventor. Each of us designed his/her invention and explained to the rest of the class what their toy was for. We have also learnt the song and story “Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer”. At the end of the term we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day, wearing a Christmas jumper and collaborating with a local solidarity project.
